I recently attended the Downton Motor Club Classic Road Run.
This is a rally that follows some of the old testing routes used by the test drivers of Downton Engineering.
Downton Engineering Works Ltd operated from 1947 until 1976. The business was formed by Daniel and Bunty Richmond who started it out as a small garage that undertook restoration work on high end cars, they then stared a sideline for performance engine tuning that would see them go into motor sport. During this time the Downton Engineering Works Social Club (DEWS) was formed by the staff.
Fast forward to 2006, the social club had a reunion of it's remaining members and they have been able to reform the social club. They hosted their first classic car show in 2008 and now host a range of activities throughout the year. They changed the name of the club to Downton Motor Club and anyone that has enthusiasm is welcome to join.
Below are the photo's I took at the beginning of the day.
