Lord Pembroke Interview

I was recently granted an interview with Lord Pembroke of Wilton House.
Some of you will know that Lord Pembroke really likes his cars and I regularly attend shows at his house in Wilton, Witshire and there is always a good turnout of cars. During these shows, Lord Pembroke can be found looking at the cars on display and chatting to the car owners and visitors. Every year at the Classic and Supercar show, Lord Pembroke leads the car parade in his Bugatti Veyron.

Above is a photo of Lord Pembroke from the 2014 Classic and Supercar Show

Below is my interview and some photo's.

Lord Pembroke, what first got you into cars?

For me it had to be the influence of the 80’s TV shows such as Knight Rider and Dukes of Hazard.

What was the first car you owned?

It was a 1.4 Ford Puma with OZ Super T wheels and MS Design bodykit!

(The above photo is not Lord Pembroke's Ford Puma)

Have you ever had a breakdown that you have been able to fix and carry on your journey?

Only one breakdown and it was terminal!

Do you have a car you use for daily driving?

I use a Land Rover Discovery 3, brilliant all round car/4x4

Do you have a favourite car?

It’s like asking someone if they have a favourite child! I would find it almost impossible to choose just one car as they all have their own characters and nuances that I love. If I absolutely had to choose one, it might be my 4.2 Series one E_type

What has been your favourite driving experience?

Driving a friends Jaguar D-Type, flat out down the Mulsanne straight!

(The above photo is the D-Type Jaguar at Goodwood)

What is it like to own and drive a Bugatti Veyron?

A great privilege but also a huge responsibility !

What was the inspiration behind hosting an annual car show at Wilton House and the breakfast meetings?

My passion for cars and the motoring community. Getting to reinvent your own car show year on year is certainly a great element of the work I do at Wilton!

How do you go about organising the event?

A very small but dedicated team who put a lot of time, effort and emotion into what we like to think is an extremely inclusive event that is all about our passion for motoring.

Do you have future plans to make the Classic & Supercars show bigger?

The trick will be to constantly improve and grow the show without losing sight of our core values.

Did you get a chance to have a proper look around the 2015 Classic & Supercar show?

Now we are a two day event, I have finally after 7 years been able to see and enjoy more of the show than I ever have.

What was your favourite car from the 2015 Classic and Supercar Show?

It had to be the original 'Back to the Future' DeLorean film car !

Are there any cars you are looking at to add to your collection?

Yes, but they are in the realms of dreams…..but dreams do have a habit of coming true if you work hard enough!

If you could be a driver for any racing team in history who would it be and why?

Sir Stirling taking on the Mille Miglia in his M-B 300 SLR !

Lord Pembroke, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions.
